Volunteer

Lengthen your neighborhood roots a bit and join one of our volunteer committees.

Below are general descriptions of what volunteers might be doing on each of the projects and committees. Reach out to get involved!

  • DMNA Directory

Ever wanted to check the name or street address of a neighbor you just met or see who might be available for babysitting? The DMNA directory is a vital resource. Come join the 2023 edition team if you have design, layout or publishing skills or could volunteer a few hours between January and March for proof-reading, etc.

Please contact Catherine Jagoe at secretary@dmna.org. We really need your help!

  • Communications

We maintain the technology needs of DMNA, primarily the dmna.org website, DMNA News and the membership database. We also author the weekly DMNA News emails, Instagram feed, and evaluate the need for technology upgrades. This coming year, we need help with building the web site on a more modern platform. Contact Lisa Grueneberg at comm@dmna.org.

  • History Committee

Record and share historical neighborhood photographs, events and stories. Maintain the DMNA History app and the DMNA archives.

Our periodic meetings are a fun exchange of ideas of how to publish the many stories of interesting people and events that came before us. We welcome new members, young and old.

    Contact Lisa Grueneberg at history@dmna.org.

  • Hornblower Newsletter

KEEP PRINT MEDIA ALIVE IN DUDGEON MONROE

Reporting, writing, editing, and coordinating ads are all crucial parts of creating this quarterly DMNA newsletter. You can help ensure the continued publication of the Hornblower.

Contact Carole Kantor at hornblower@dmna.org to explore how.

  • Membership Drive

We need volunteers to go to around 15 addresses to gather information for the Neighborhood Directory and collect dues for membership each fall. Volunteers might also choose to help to liaise with block captains, count money or enter new data into the database. Contact Kathy Engebretsen at membership@dmna.org.

  • Parks & Garden and Southwest Path

Help preserve and enhance our neighborhood’s wonderful parks, gardens and green spaces. We sponsor solstice bonfires and picnics, Make Music Madison performances, and historic tours. We welcome new ideas for neighborhood social activities and maintenance! Volunteer once or as often as you like.

    Contact Sandy at sestark@wisc.edu.

  • Planning & Zoning Committee

The planning and zoning committee welcomes volunteers

    Contact Josh at zoning@dmna.org.

  • Social Committee

Help foster neighborhood-building by organizing occasional social events and the annual meeting plus developing lively new events like the snow sculpture contest.

    Contact Diego Saenz at president@dmna.org.

  • Social Justice Committee

What if our neighborhood became an incubator for exciting new ways to live on our finite and fragile planet? The Social Justice Committee, meeting quarterly, is YOUR forum for addressing these ideas. We are currently addressing food insecurity for students, the overuse of plastics, and preparation for an effective neighborhood response to disasters. We are an active group of neighbors ready to assist you; join us!

Contact co-chair Dave Leeper at daveleeper@gmail.com.

  • Transportation Committee

This lively committee meets several times a year to monitor issues affecting those who walk, run, bike, drive and take public transit around our neighborhood. We welcome new members.
